Christmas Is A Comin'... And So Is The Christmas Mix

With tomorrow being Thanksgiving here in the states the holiday season is creeping up on us quickly! For now I just wanted to share my intentions for the Christmas mix that I've had in the works for a week now... there is absolutely no way in the world that I'm going to try and recreate the Halloween effort by posting individual tracks on a daily basis. Instead I'm going to hack the mix into a few chunks and share them on a weekly basis. This way you'll get a few songs at a time to enjoy instead of individual tracks and once they're pieced together you'll have a complete Jamaican Christmas mix.

Happy Thanksgiving... stay tuned.

Hope you don't mind me doing a Xmas mix too - the more festive roots fun the better I reckon!

  3. Hearwax of course not! Like you said it'll make the holidays a lot more fun hearing someone other mixes besides your own... though I have the feeling we'll be hearing a few of the same songs. Oh well, there's only so many good reggae Christmas songs anyway!! :-) Looking forward to it - I'll be posting part one of my mix this week.

Cool JAxx, If you could let me have a list of the tracks you're gonna include in your mix, I will try and avoid as many as possible in mine - might as well keep the punters happy!

    Greetings from London, UK!

I've no way of knowing whether you'll get this message, but in the spirit of 'Better Late Than Never' here goes anyway; I only just stumbled across your excellent blog very recently (well, Oct 2007) with Halloween much in mind. Having found most of the links from your Halloween mix now dead :( , I came across your Christmas Mix from 2006. Nice nice nice - and extra poignancy from the US jingles (no pun intended) in between; the familiar cues of a cosy, affluent Yankee yuletide don't half juxtapose with the ghetto reality of the 70s JA equivalent. Dunno whether it was intentional, but I found it really provocative; and that on top of a great selection of tunes, that I'll bet has already brought happiness to a LOT of people. Top work, fella.

In fact, all power to you and your blog. I run a sound system specialising in classic reggae in East London; like your blog, it's all about sharing those nuggets... and most of the time there's little feedback, however much it sweet de crowd. But every once in a while someone who you've really moved just has to tell you - and you remember why you started doing it. If I was down with the tech side of thangs, I might well be blogging too. In the meantime, THANKS for the openheartedness (and knowledge) with which you've put this lot up -
BIG respect - and look forward to getting in touch again.

    One love.

  6. Christofari,

Thanks for the kind comments. I did intentionally juxtapose the stereotypical American Christmas clips between the songs to serve as a counterpoint to the hard reality served up in the holiday tunes from JA... thanks for noticing.

I envy you in the fact that you have a medium to reach people on a one on one basis by being able to share music when you DJ. I've found that to be the hardest thing about doing the blog... is anyone listening or does anyone enjoy what I've put together? You don't really get the feedback you could see firsthand by gauging people's reaction when spinning tunes live. I used to weigh my success by the comments I receive but now I have so much fun putting these mixes together that it has become secondary. I love this music, the country and its people so much that it's really just a labor of love - if I can still listen to one of the mixes I made 2 months later I've done something right.

You found me just in time because I'm busy gearing up for the Jamaican Christmas Mix 2007 as we speak... I actually bought a couple Christmas albums I didn't have and I'm waiting for them to arrive before I can finalize the playlist. But stay tuned... it's shaping up to be a good one!

    Take Care!
