A Little Off Topic... Saturday Night Live Skit

Take a look at this Eddie Murphy skit which aired on Saturday Night Live circa 1982. I have mixed emotions about this one. On one hand I can appreciate parody and I do find this clip extremely funny but on the otherhand I find it pretty offensive. No, the kill the white people lyrics don't offend as much as the negative image of Rasta and reggae musicians it presented.

This is one of those Saturday Night Live skits that I remember seeing as a child and to see it 20+ years later was pretty wild. Unfortunately the song is so catchy I haven't been able to get it out of my head since I watched it this afternoon. :-)

What do you think?

Hehe, I like this skit... I've had it on my computer for a while, didn't know how old it was though. I find it funny ofcourse, but as you say it's a bit offensive. The attitude towards reggaemusicians isn't the best but what the hell, made me laugh anyway.

I totally forgot about that sketch, you know I'm going to be walking around the grocery store tonight inadvertently singing "kill the white people, oh oh, yea yea' under my breath. haha.

This could be taken as offensive, however when you compare with skecthes that are comonplace now, Dave Chapple, Borat, this suddenly deosnt seem that bad. As long as everyone understands its all in fun and game

A fine clip. As an early SNL viewer, I did not see the show in the Eddie days. Great for it's time and still funnier then hell now. Don't think too many folks would take offence though even now. Keep up the excellent work here amigo.
