WELCOME BACK JOHN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just thought I'd check your blog in case you'd had time to up something - and I can't believe it: what looks like an EXCEPTIONAL reggae mix, AND a non-Jamaican one too. There are tears in my eyes.

Honestly John, Halloween just wouldn't be the same without you. Thanks for finding time to collect and share these bloodcurdling treats.
Have a great time tonight. Very best wishes from your ever-expanding fan base in the UK - all the best to you and yours; look forward to catching up with you soon!

I wanted to say "thanks" for the old 2007 piece you did on the use of harmonica in reggae; incredibly comprehensive and carefully considered! I program a folk radio program on my campus station, and I've been trying to push myself by doing an hour of reggae and reggae-inspired music, but it's not at all my area of expertise... I stumbled upon this blog, and you seem quite knowledgeable, so I was hoping you might be able to help me here: I was surfing radio channels away from home the other night and I caught an incredibly chill, dubbed-out instrumental track with harmonica replacing the rhythm guitar. I was entirely fascinated, and am dying to find something similar to play on my show, but the station turns out to have been another college outfit and their playlist section is basically non-functional. Their contact info wasn't up-to-date, either, so there's really no way for me to find out what was playing! If you know of anything with that sort of harmonica playing, it'd be wonderful if you could let me know - obviously not looking for the exact track I heard, whatever it was, but the sound is stuck in my head and I'd love to hear something that echoes it. Thanks in advance, and especially for your informative, eye-opening music coverage!

Erik, thanks for the kind comments! As for dubby harmonica tracks... I'd recommend Big Youth's "Dread Organ" from the Dreadlocks Dread album... the harmonica replaces the guitar throughout the majority of the track and it has some bad-ass echo effects. Not exactly chilled-out but a real killer tune. If you still have the link for the tune you heard forward it to me and maybe I can identify it for you.
